Stepping into Wellness: The Power of Walking

I moved to New York in May 2024. After much thought, I knew I wanted to live in a walkable city. Having lived in a suburban area my entire life, I had never truly experienced what it was like to live somewhere where walking wasn’t just an option—it was a way of life. Where I grew up, driving was the norm, even for places just minutes apart. The neighborhoods weren’t designed for walking, so the idea of getting around on foot didn’t feel practical or encouraged.

As I explored different parts of the world, I noticed how seamlessly walking and wellness are intertwined. In cities built for pedestrians, people naturally choose to walk because it’s encouraged by thoughtfully designed sidewalks, pathways, and diverse commute options beyond just cars.

Before making the transition to New York, my walking routine was pretty limited—mostly short lunchtime strolls at work. While those brief walks were nice, I craved more freedom to choose where and when I walked. Since I’d always dreamed of moving to New York to pursue my career, the city’s reputation as a walkable haven felt like the perfect match.

Walking has not only improved my physique but also given my mind an outlet to think in other environments and capacities. I love being able to move my body and do so in a way that allows me to explore the beautiful city I live in. It’s become an outlet, giving me space to think, reflect, and enjoy my surrounding, and being able to live right by Central Park has been the icing on the cake!

Even during winter, I have had the pleasure of walking through Central Park as snowfall has covered the entire park. Exploring New York through all its seasons has easily become one of my favorite things—blending movement, mental clarity, and the simple joy of seeing the city’s beauty unfold year-round.

Each season in New York feels like stepping onto the set of a cinematic masterpiece — you just have to be willing to walk to see it unfold. And that’s exactly what I’ve done since moving here, embracing each moment, one step at a time.

XOXO,

Morgan
