It’s no secret that women have a timeless love for well-crafted fragrances. Personally, I’ve always been drawn to the world of scents whether perfumes or luxurious scented oils. For me, the perfect way to elevate and complete any look is by pairing it with a fragrance that seamlessly complements your style and essence.
My fascination with the art of perfumery truly began after a trip to Paris in 2022, where I attended a perfume-making class. It was there that I was introduced to the concept of perfume notes—the intricate layers of scent that unfold within a fragrance. I discovered how these notes are carefully blended, each one playing a vital role in the way a fragrance evolves on the skin. From the initial burst of top notes to the depth of the base, I learned not only how each layer contributes to a perfume’s character but also how long each note lingers, creating a sensory journey that is both personal and timeless.
Perfume Notes
Perfume notes are typically categorized into three tiers: Base Notes, Heart Notes, and Top Notes.
Base Notes are the longest-lasting, often lingering on the skin for up to six hours. They carry the most potent elements of the fragrance and serve as its foundation. While they last the longest, base notes usually don’t emerge until 20–30 minutes after applying the perfume.
Heart Notes follow next, generally lasting from 20 minutes to an hour. Known as the “heart” of the fragrance, these notes make up about 70–75% of the scent’s profile. They deepen the aromatic experience and tie the composition together, bringing balance and warmth.
Top Notes are the lightest and most fleeting, usually lasting only 5–15 minutes. They’re the first impression—the scents you notice immediately when spraying the perfume. Though short-lived, top notes are essential, creating an inviting introduction and a smooth transition into the heart of the fragrance.
Together, these notes play essential roles in shaping a fragrance and allowing it to settle beautifully on your skin, creating a scent journey that unfolds in layers over time.

Intensities
Not all perfumes are created equal in intensity and longevity. While some fragrances linger gracefully throughout the day, others fade much quicker. The most common intensities are Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum, and Perfume (Parfum).
Eau de Toilette is the lightest in strength, typically lasting 2–3 hours on the skin with a fragrance concentration of 5–15%. It’s often the most affordable and widely popular option. Because of its lighter formulation, Eau de Toilette usually requires more reapplication throughout the day to maintain a fresh aroma.
Eau de Parfum offers a stronger presence, with an oil concentration of 15–20% and a wear time of about 4–5 hours. Less expensive than traditional Perfume yet more enduring than Eau de Toilette, it strikes a beautiful balance of richness and longevity.
Perfume (Parfum) has the highest concentration of fragrance oils 20% or more allowing it to last anywhere from 8 hours to an entire day. It’s often the most luxurious and costly option, but with the benefit of fewer alcohols, making it more refined and long-lasting on the skin.
No matter the intensity, fragrances serve as both subtle whispers and bold statements, enhancing your presence in memorable ways. For me, perfume has always been the final touch to my routine. Whether I’m heading out for the day, enjoying a quiet moment at home, or stepping into an evening out, that final spritz feels like a signature luxurious, personal, and undeniably special.
So, with that being said, I hope you can discover scents that truly resonate with you and incorporate them seamlessly into your own daily routine!
XOXO,
Morgan
